IICh PAN, wraz z partnerem IITiS PAN realizuje projekt, którego celem jest budowa instalacji fotowoltaicznej wraz z magazynem energii na potrzeby obu Instytutów.

The development of civilization, which leads to the improvement of the quality of life of people, is associated with the intensive use of the natural environment. Unfortunately, gaseous, liquid, and solid waste, accompanying the extraction of raw materials and various industrial processes, end up in it. In the Institute of Chemical Engineering, Polish Academy of Sciences, solving problems related to the disposal or management of waste streams for the sake of environmental protection, and therefore human health and life has a special priority.

The Institute develops technologies for carbon dioxide capture and biogas enrichment based on modern gas separation techniques. Experimental and theoretical studies are carried out, using CFD modeling, which focuses on the utilization of low-concentration methane from the ventilation air in catalytic and non-catalytic reversal processes as well as the utilization of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (Nox) in catalytic reactors, where a catalyst is immobilized on modern structural supports obtained, for example, by a 3D printing method. Moreover, the preparation of materials with a designed structure in the nano- and micrometric scale and with specific catalytic and sorption properties for use in chemical and separation processes is elaborated. Technologies related to environmental protection, developed by the Institute's employees, are awarded numerous prizes at national and international fairs of inventions and innovations.

Research conducted in the Institute, often in cooperation with national and foreign centers, results in patents, publications in scientific journals with a high impact factor, and awards. The employees of the Institute are enthusiasts who work with people representing various disciplines and strive for the practical application of their research results.

The technology for VOCs biodegradation in trickle-bed bioreactor was developed at the Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice and jointly patented with ICHEMAD-Profarb sp. z o.o. in Gliwice.

The technology for the utilization of methane from the ventilation air of hard coal mines in the Thermal Reversing Reactor (TFRR), developed at the Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice, was awarded a gold medal at the 13th International Invention and Innovation Show INTARG®2020 Online, a gold medal and a special award at the International Invention and Trade Expo 2020 Online in London, a gold medal at the Online Edition of the Innovation Week IWA 2020 in Morocco, a gold medal and a special award WIIPA at Kaohsiung Intenational Invetion & Design EXPO, KIDE 2020 in Taiwan, as well as a gold medal at the 7th International Young Inventors Award 2020 in Indonesia.
