Abstract

The water gas shift reaction in a membrane tube-in-tube reactor (4 cm inner tube diameter, 5.6 cm shell diameter,1.2-3 m length) with hydrogen recovered at the shell side was analyzed theoretically. Carbon monoxide final conversion up to 96% and hydrogen recovery up to 35% could be achieved when a palladium membrane with hydrogen permeability as high as 5.7∙10-5 mol/m2∙s1∙Pan is used. It is necessary to increase H2 permeability to 4.2∙10-3 mol/m2∙s1∙Pan in order to increase H2 recovery above 96%.
